Thank you for speaking out against Steve Bannon. Every American who is not a white Christian male needs to be concerned about him being given this prominent position. I don’t consider myself Jewish, but I was born into a Jewish family. I’m a white female. If things don’t go Trump’s way, will I be targeted or scapegoated as his gins up his base? Bannon is a dangerous person especially in this position of power. I was surprised that Anderson Cooper (whom I respect) asked questions of a recent panel as though there was nothing wrong with this picture. All Americans should be extremely concerned about this pick.

Van Thank you for so eloquently expressing “White lash” I can’t imagine how many U.S. friends are scared to death as well as a sister contemplating returning to Canada. As a Canadian we are feeling many uncertainties and may no longer be considered the neighbors and partners we once thought. We are however a multicultural society with open doors and would welcome being a second home to those feeling over whelming fearfulness . Like slaves and the Underground Railway “follow the moss on the side of the trees bark, as it will lead you North to freedom” Today however you will find Welcome signs…

If dreams and ideas stopped at one given point I promise this election isn’t it. I see a country that has really exposed itself. Change and acceptance doesn’t happen overnight. Look at the issues we’ve all brought up. Look at the attention that has been given to the things we just a few years ago refused to discuss. The path that we’ve paived was on rough and unexplored territory. But that path has been made. That path has been cut for the future conquerors. We will still dream. We will still hope. And we will still win.

You tell them to be who they are and support who they are. One person doesn’t define idividual identity. If fear is the only thing we have to fear then all the people that live in fear have a much stronger voice than many realize. Keep educating. Stay out of the shadows and be seen. Speak loudly and carry a big stick to be heard. Open arms to be embraced.

Van, you are such a sane voice in all of this. You are such a class act. Please, help us understand how to handle the fear that many of us are feeling right now. What do I tell my boys? My Muslim neighbors? My African American friends that are involved in Black Lives Matter? My gay Uncle? I live in a very diverse neighborhood just north of the Bronx, NY and we are terrified…
